Just wanted to take a moment and mention some really good anime... of course what's good or not is relative to personal opinion, tastes and preferences, but it seems to me that every once in a while a few titles rise to the top among the many series that are out there..
I'll start with the anime called Claymore.
It's basically about these group of girls (of course) who are able to kill demons because they are half demon blooded themselves.. which allows them to be endowed with abilities- namely super fighting sword moves.. and the ability to reattach severed limbs, which happens often. This anime has some slightly mature themes to it, but nothing lewd. Bottom line, if you like that type of art and theme, you'll dig it, and it has good pace and story development- at least I think it does. All in all, it's good in my opinion, especially because of certain 'interests'
Next is an anime movie called Darkside Blues
This is an oldie, if I'm not mistaken and it's a bit of a weird movie, (I was never sure if it came from a manga or not) But in my opinion the reason why this movie came into my view, is because in the beginning it has one of the best animated sequences of a girl turning to gold ever! I am a ASFR fan, so any time i find something about someone turning into something else I grab it. The sequence involves a living woman who is a prisoner being hooked up to some strange device and the woman with the hawk on her shoulder activates it- and we see a nice close up of the prisoners belly as the machine pumps whatever into her- and it slowly morphs-oozes into solid gold.. The sound effects are perfect, Best animated gold turning sequence EVER! and what sucks is that the machine stopped early and she was left to die with only her stomach area to mid thigh turned to gold.. "Why didn't they let us see the whole body turn to gold dammit!" LOL
I usually don't care for the people being turned into statues to die- I like the idea that they are in stasis or something.. that to me is better.
Next anime series is the infamous or famous or notorious(
) Elfen Lied anime..
If you like seeing people get dis-armed and de-legged and beheaded and otherwise turn into blood spray- this series is packed with it.. It features these special girls (once again: Of course) who have invisible arms that have a long range and can sever limbs like a surgeons scalpel... The show is kind of creepy in that you feel like you're walking along side a pretty girl who can at any moment switch personalities into this psychopathic killer monster girl..
But what makes this anime famous is the scene where Lucy fights Nana and pulls/cuts her limbs off- (and this is in the first disk episode 4 i think) it's really good amputation sequence- stands out in my mind, and Nana isn't killed off either- I hate it when they kill off amputee characters in movies and shows- Nana uses 4 of her invisible arms to hold on special prosthetic limbs for the rest of the series.. and she has a couple of prat falls later where she loses hold of the limbs and you can see her as a quad.. Yep this series is pretty iconic for amputee fans
Next Series is Kill La Kill
I'll just say this: Utterly Fantastic Anime! I like everything about this series- Here's why 1.) it plays like a long long movie - 25 episodes which i like. 2) It features super powered girls fighting- which I really like.. 3.) the comedy is freaking hilarious, and well played. 4.) the anime style and facial expressions are refreshingly different and awesome 5.) the demonstrations of Power are freaking amazing, and well portrayed in my opinion. 6.) The gratuitous use of shining light coupled with awesome sound effects- adds to the greatness 7.) the use of 3d is nicely blended in to the 2d elements- always a plus there 8.) the story development- my god- do you have a moment? LOL The way the story develops is fantastic- because it leads you to believe that this is just another goofy comedy anime- but then it starts to get serious/real- like damn, this is freaking fantastic! - This is just one goddamn freaking great anime.. like I say- I can't believe it took me so long to get to it.. (man, i've been out of the anime loop too long i watched Kill La Kill like last year 2015 i think)
Next we come to yet another effing fantastic anime! Moribito Guardian of The Spirit.
Where to start with this fantastic series? Okay- well 1.)It's drawn totally different than typical anime- by that I mean the artist actually draws big regular type Noses for one..
LOL, which means you'll probably need a moment or two to get used to the art sytle 2.) It's set in ancient Japan, BEFORE the Shogunate / Samurai days So you get this ancient japan feeling but without Kitanas or Wazakis, it's great!.. and- goddamn- the freaking backgrounds are amazing in my opinion- (I say this because I aspire to draw backgrounds that work and are epic- and seeing shit like this makes me want to get better, so I totally admire amazing backgrounds) 3.) the main character is a 30 year old woman Balsa, who is a well trained spear fighter! I LOVE THAT! I am eternally in love with strong powerful female lead characters! Hell-the-f-yeah! 4.) These guys have perfectly incorporated 3d elements to this series in way that it doesn't look like any 3d shit was used- in other words I thought it was well blended, it didn't stand out. I say this because I am a fan of traditional cel painted anime, and when the CG aspect started to be introduced it stood out in the shows.. but now they're much better at it. okay 5.) It's a slow paced anime.. lots of quiet scenes and glances and looks which is relaxing and refreshing. 6.) God, the martial arts in this show- It's powerful but yet- REALISTIC! - I love the way they portray the fighting- straight up martial arts combat.. and yes there are magical elements to this movie- but they kept it out of the martial combat- which I thought was good. 7.) This is one of the few anime where they depict characters doing clever things that you will probably never have seen in any other movies.. like smart things.. I'll give you one example- a group of hunters was trying to figure out where to look to find the main character.. so they decide to sit and meditate to try to think what she would do!! Boring right? but still- who the f--k does that in movies? LOL FANTASTIC! 8.) Oh this series also plays like one long ass movie, divided into 20-30 episodes, I'm a big fan of that if you can't tell yet.. LOL 9.) Okay, the freaking characters are all memorable and unique in my opinion.. so that's a plus. 10.) The mood and emotion produced by the series is effective and well done which leads me to. 11.) the Plot! It is very well developed and unfolds beautifully, but I must warn those of you who are fast paced or impatient, you may have trouble getting through the middle episodes.. I'll say it like this- to me the story starts off exciting, then kind of slows up a bit in the middle, my guess is to build up tension, then the end starts to get kind of like a roller coaster going down hill.. so if you take your time and wait it out- it pays off..
When I first watched this series I watched a couple episodes each day after work- I didn't try to watch it all in one day..
That's it for the anime I wanted to mention for now.
Like I said- very subject to relativity
